“Tall Grass”
Lyrics and Music by Joanne DavisUnder the trees on a country road, the old house stands alone.
The iron swing has rusted away in the field where the children used to play.
I walked out there the other day, and, after a while I walked away……But, I still remember the Tall Grass, where I lay close in your arms.
I still see it Weaving, Waving, Willing…. under the trees…. I remember the Dawns
that surprised us too soon.I remember the Winter Time, the fields all covered with Snow.
I remember the Bushes Iced with Lace, I remember the Rug and the Fireplace,
I remember the Firelight on your Face, the Hours that passed without a trace…..And, I still remember the Tall Grass, where I lay close in your arms.
I still see it Weaving, Waving, Willing…..under the trees, I remember the Dawns
that surprised us too soon.Every year, when the Grass grows High, I’m drawn to that place again,
though the Fields and the Bushes are overgrown…..
the windows are broken by vandal’s stones…..
and the door swings open and no one’s home…….
the Past is gone, and I’m alone……I still remember the Tall Grass, where I lay close in your arms.
I still see it Weaving, Waving, Willing…..under the trees, I remember the Dawns
that surprised us too soon……..
